Crazy Dreams
April 23rd, 2009 by Ross

Presumably I have dreams all the time, but I never remember them, so I’m not sure why I decided to write a song about them.  Nonetheless, that is precisely what I have just done.

Last night I was looking for lyrics for sketch7-1 and, after deciding that the various ideas I had scribbled down didn’t really fit, I played it back once more.  For some reason it gave me the impression of driving down a road at night, and almost immediately the first couple of lines popped into my head.

I’m heading down a road – don’t know where it’s leading

Still I find I’m in a hurry to arrive

Initially I came up with two more lines then got stuck.  A bit later on I wrote the word “Dreamscape” on a bit of paper, then went to bed.

Today I realised that the first couplet could be imagery from a dream.  The next two lines were promptly scribbled out as they didn’t fit, and the rest of verse one came fairly quickly.  I read a little bit about dreams on some websites (and was reminded that there are some very strange people out there!) then wrote another three verses.

Each verse details a separate dream – none of them a dream that I’ve ever actually had, but the first three are fairly are apparently all fairly common themes:  being chased by something, falling and flying.  So now I just have to get the vocals recorded!
